Aaron was born in rural Australia and has lived and worked in and around his neighbouring South-East Asian region. He works as a director and writer across film, VR, commercials and multi-platform, and is drawn to narratives that explore human vulnerability and cross-cultural connection. In 2006, he was selected for a filmmaker residency program with The Objectifs Centre for Filmmaking and Photography in Singapore, where he developed the script for CANOPY, his debut feature. CANOPY had its world premiere at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival, and screened at festivals including Rotterdam, Busan, Taipei, Shanghai, New Horizons and Seattle. CANOPY sold to the UK, Hong Kong, Canada, US, Taiwan, Australia and China.

 

His second feature, LITTLE TORNADOES, had its world premiere at the Melbourne International Film Festival MIFF in 2021 and screened at festivals including Brisbane, CinefestOZ, Barcelona and Buenos Aires. The film, released in Australian cinemas in 2022 to critical acclaim, was selected as one of The Guardian’s "Top 10 Australian Films of 2022". Aaron won the 2021 ADG Award for Best Direction in an Immersive Title for his VR film IOPU, and the 2022 ADG Award for Best Direction in a Feature Film < $1M for LITTLE TORNADOES.

 

Aaron is represented for film and TV by RGM (Australia) and Echo Lake Entertainment (US), and for commercials by Merv Makes (Australasia) and Chuan Pictures (South-East Asia).
